Designed Through Experience
VL Studio is a subsidiary of VL Architects, our parent architecture firm with years of experience designing custom ADUs and residential projects.
Through that work, we repeatedly saw the same issue — the process was slow and complicated for homeowners. Permits took longer than expected. Reviews required multiple rounds. Clients ready to build faced delays and frustration.
We knew there had to be a better way.
As more cities began offering pre-approved ADU programs, we saw an opportunity to improve the process. These programs allow Building & Safety and Zoning officials to review designs in advance, confirming code compliance before permit submission. This reduces uncertainty and shortens approval timelines.
That’s why we launched VL Studio, a dedicated subsidiary focused exclusively on ADU design and construction.
Instead of starting from scratch for every project, we developed a collection of permit-ready ADU designs reviewed for zoning and building code compliance. This allows clients to move forward with predictable schedules and fewer revisions.
Our ADUs are partially assembled off-site and completed on-site for efficiency and quality control, reducing construction time, delivering a more reliable building experience from start to finish.
